Towards the end of the 1990s, thoughts turned to the next millennium and what it would bring.
Viktor&Rolf’s answer was to make a collection around the silhouette of the mushroom
cloud produced by an atomic bomb. Silk padding was used to inflate the clothes, and the theme was further elaborated with tinsel, streamers, balloons and pompoms. While welcoming the new millennium, ‘Atomic Bomb’ also saluted the twentieth century. Viktor&Rolf incorporated vintage fabrics by Chanel, Balenciaga and Pucci, sourced from the Parisian manufacturer René Véron.
