Dressed by Viktor&Rolf themselves, the model, Maggie Rizer, arrived on
stage wearing the first garment, a short dress made of coarsely woven jute and silk satin, and stepped into a pair of shoes on a turntable, rotating like a figurine in a music box. She was then slowly dressed in eight additional layers of couture dresses, each heavily embroidered with crystals and lace, and each referred to by the designers as a ‘preparation’ for the next layer. The preparations acted as pieces in a puzzle, each new layer completing or mirroring a detail or an element on the preceding tier. Once each layer was in place, the turntable revolved and the designers brought in the next preparation, essentially creating a Russian Doll in reverse.
