Portrait of Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren

A LEGACY OF UNCOMPROMISING VISION

Viktor&Rolf is an Amsterdam-based fashion house founded in 1993 by Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, known for blending art and fashion through bold, conceptual designs.

For over 30 years, it has challenged convention with sculptural couture, poetic precision and a distinct creative voice always uniting art and fashion. Beyond couture, it has expanded into ready-to-wear, eyewear, bridalwear and fragrances.

Within a journey developed together with OTB Group — owner of Viktor&Rolf and the international fashion and luxury group behind Diesel, Jil Sander, Maison Margiela and Marni — the Maison continues to pursue its evolution within the international luxury landscape.

L’ APPARENCE DU VIDE

For Spring/Summer 1996, Viktor&Rolf transformed the fashion show into a conceptual installation in Galerie Patricia Dofmann. Instead of live models, gold garment-sculptures were suspended from the ceiling, their presence echoed by black silk organza arranged on the floor like shadows. A soundtrack of children reciting the names of renowned supermodels, offered a reflection on the era’s fascination with fashion personalities and celebrities.

LE PARFUM

FIRST HAUTE COUTURE SHOW

Rather than debuting through the conventions of the runway, Viktor and Rolf chose to present their first couture work within the walls of Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris, aligning their practice with the language of contemporary art.

Garments were conceived less as wearable objects and more as sculptural propositions, with each model posing on plinths. This positioning laid the conceptual groundwork for their entry into the official Haute Couture calendar, where their hybrid vision—part performance, part couture—would begin to reshape the codes of fashion shows.
